It's been a long time since I've read The Giving Tree. I didn't realize there was such a controversy over it. I'll have to check it out again. I do love the book Love You Forever, but I remember the first time I read it thinking, "This is a strange book to read to children" I currently don't have a copy, but I have bought it as a gift for baby showers.

Also some of my favorite books are "Mr. Putter and Tabby" they are the cutest books about a little old man and his little old cat, their adventures and their neighbor Mrs. Teaberry. They are so cute and funny!!

Melissa- I thought the Love you Forever book was very strange and slightly creepy. :0) Okay I am ready to have a throw down about the Giving tree- bring it on!! LOL!!! I seriously would still cry if I read the giving tree again. :0( I can also see Kaitlyn and Madison getting upset if they heard it. Heck they cry when they see baby pictures of themselves. I have very weepy kids :0)

Our loves sound much the same!

I adore children's books and as a result started a meme on Friday called "Feed Me Books Friday" Moms post about 1-3 bks that they and their children love and come link up and surf around getting recommendations. I copy and paste the titles and authors to make a library list for that week and it saves me time looking for quality books and alert me to good authors.

So if you're looking for something to post about on Fridays we would love to have you join us. We usually have a theme but you don't have to follow it. I love your list of 10 here! Phantom Tollbooth can be found in many children's live theatre's as well.

I LOVED the Mandie books growing up! They were one of my favorite series. They have made the first one into a movie and I am dying to see it and to see if it is as wonderful as the books were!

My only suggestion is to read the Paper Bag Princess before you read it to the kids. It has a very interesting ending. One you wouldn't expect from a princess book. I think it's great though. It's all about female empowerment :)

@Trish- I haven't read the Paper Bag princess but I'll have to put it on hold at the library! What else does Robert Munsch write? I know we've read something by him recently. "Love You Forever?"

@ Laurie- Do I sense another blow out discussion coming on?lol I do understand why you guys think it's sad. I think it's sadly beautiful. My girls like it too and don't seem to get sad by it. I figured they probably would too. You know what book I actually find so sad and kinda weird I haven't read it to the girls yet? "Love You Forever"!

@Heather- What I do when there are a bunch of titles I want to check out is I make note of them and them ask for them to be put on hold and the library for me. Then when they're available for pick up they let me know. They do all the work of finding the books and I just pick them up!

Okay I have to say I agree with Trish, I have always disliked The Giving Tree. I always thought the boy was so selfish. All the tree did was give constantly and all the boy did was take! I don't remember him ever saying thank you. The first time I heard this book as a child I remember crying so hard. I do love all the other books especially the Fancy Nancy ones she is so great!! :0)
