Here are the pictures from VBS from my inlaws’ church. It was “Paul and The Underground Church”. It was really neat and Katelyn had a blast. Her soon-to-be Pre-K teacher was one of her leaders so she got to know “Miss Tilley” even better! There are a lot of pictures in this post and many of them are for my parent’s benefit since they are planning on doing this VBS theme next year. So I wanted them to see how this church did it.

This VBS theme was, obviously, set in Rome during the apostle Paul’s time.Katelyn was in the “Tiberius” family. There were 4 “families” who each had a tent. The families each rotated through the nightly activities. Everyone would start out the night upstairs in the sanctuary to sing songs and here what the theme verse and concept was that night.

These pictures are of the “market place”. They decked out the fellowship hall. It looked really neat.

This was a short review of the lesson and then game time

Some of the “characters” that made VBS great!

One of the Christians in front of the “underground church”

snack time. Katelyn is wearing one her crafts.

Game time. This game was a “chariot race”. Katelyn and her friend Kaitlin(lol) had a blast! They are pulling my friend Laurel’s 2 year- old daughter, Evee.

The leaders and Evee pulling the girls

The guard guarding “Paul” in his prison cell.

My inlaws’ pastor, Ryan, was Paul. Every day each family would visit him in his “cell”. Here he gave a quick lesson to about God’s word and the verse of the day. He would also give them a message to send to his fellow Christians in the underground church.

The underground church.
My inlaws’ church has an old barn attached to the parsonage and it has this space underneath it. It made a great underground church! Here they would meet with Paul’s friends and followers and review what they had learned that day. They would also pray together and the Christians would send a message to Paul for the next day with each family.

Craft time. My mother in law put all the crafts together. She’s good with stuff like that and very creative.

Here the kids are watching one of the many of the impromptu “skits” that would happen while they were in their tents. The kids never knew when one was coming.

Some of the leaders speaking to the kids after one of the skits. This group of kids were the ones who wanted to accept Jesus in their hearts like one of the Romans did in the preceding skit. Katelyn raised her hand to go up front too. Although I was thrilled, I think she did because so many other children raised their hands! lol

This game was supposed to help the children see what it was like to be a Roman soldier. They had to carry this tarp with a back pack in it that was very heavy. (I can’t remember the exact weight!) Apparently that weight is what Roman soldiers carried around every day with all their gear. Because the backpack was too heavy for those little kids to carry they got to carry it as a group. They also were getting misted with water so they could see what it was like to carry all that weight around in the rain.

Here they were tossing “knuckle bones” into bins.

This was the final group ceremony. Each family presented one of the Bible verse themes and concepts and then they sang a song. The music was awesome.
So there you have it!

We had the pleasure of being able to attend two VBS’s this year. This first set of pictures is from our church’s VBS. Since our church is small we have had different ministry teams come and do VBS for us. This year a small group of teens from Childhood Evangelism Fellowship came. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed with this year’s VBS but the kids seemed to have fun and three children from our church gave their hears to Jesus the week after VBS.(Including Katelyn). Katelyn had a blast just like she did last year. I went every day and watched and tried to keep Madelyn out of trouble She enjoyed playing in the nursery and watching the kids do their activities.

The small but lively group of kids we had

Katelyn and her friend Addy

Getting to have snack with all the big kids

Madelyn doing her thing

Playing ” If you Love Jesus Will You Please Smile”. The object is to be able to answer ” Yes, I love Jesus but I just can’t smile” and not smile while saying that. If you smile you have to be the one to go around asking everyone that question and trying to get them to smile. Katelyn, of course, wanted to “lose” every time.

Katelyn was trying to get her favorite boy friend,Stephen, to laugh.(not to be mistaken with boyfriend! Although, I think she might have a little crush on him!)

Playing a game similar to “Duck Duck Goose” but with water.

Pouring water on Stephen’s head…hmmmm

Katelyn and her friend Lainey

Katelyn and Stephen paired up for another game. Do you see the hands? See a trend here?

Group Tag or something like that.

Madelyn having a tickle fest from Jen.
Highlights # 2 from our second VBS coming soon!
